The Mossos d'Esquadra have arrested in El Vendrell a 33-year-old man as the alleged perpetrator of six robberies with force in commercial establishments in the capital of Baix Penedès. The arrest took place last Thursday, around 2:00 p.m., on the Rambla promenade.
The investigation places the suspect in a chain of robberies committed between February 26 and March 22 in different parts of the municipality. The agents attribute to him actions in premises in the La Muntanyeta neighborhood, Sant Xavier street, Colom street and Calafell road.
Robberies in several businesses of the municipality
One of the episodes under investigation focuses on the same establishment in the La Muntanyeta neighborhood, where the detainee allegedly entered up to three times on February 26 and 27 and March 7. To these events is added another robbery in a business on Sant Xavier street, committed on February 16, in which he allegedly forced open the cash register and took money and a small computer.
The Mossos also link him to two other robberies. One in a bar on Colom street on March 12 and another in a bazaar on the Calafell road on March 22. In all cases, the pattern of action was similar, with forced entries into the premises during the commission of the acts.
Same pattern and video surveillance cameras
According to the police investigation, the alleged perpetrator used tools to force doors, metal grilles, and windows. Once inside, he primarily stole cash, mobile phones, and objects easily placed on the second-hand market.
The identification was possible due to the coincidence in the area of operation, the same modus operandi, and the images captured by video surveillance cameras. The investigators already knew the suspect, who had been arrested at the beginning of February for four other incidents of similar characteristics committed during the month of January.
Close to forty records
The man accumulates around forty police records. After his arrest on the Rambla promenade, he remained under police custody until Saturday he was brought before the investigating court on duty in El Vendrell, which will have to determine his procedural situation.
