The province of Tarragona is experiencing an episode of strong winds which has forced the alert to be maintained in several regions, with special impact in the Terres de l"Ebre. The storm, with north and west component wind, has been intensifying throughout the day and has left some of the most notable gusts in the south of the country.

In El Perelló, one of the towns most exposed in this episode, gusts of up to 121 km/h have been recorded. The situation is part of a broader episode affecting a large part of Catalonia and which has also left very high values in other parts of the territory.

The storm hits hard in several points of Catalonia

Outside Tarragona, the wind has also blown with very strong intensity in the north of the country. In Portbou, gusts of 143 km/h have been reached, while in La Tosa d"Alp, 133 km/h have been registered. These are figures that reflect the extent of the episode and its impact both on the coast and in mountain areas.

The evolution of the storm has led the technical committee of the VENTCAT plan to meet to monitor the situation. After evaluating the available data and the weather forecast, the coordination body has decided to maintain the alert phase.

The impact will shift towards the north

The forecasts indicate that the wind will progressively lose intensity throughout the day. Even so, the impact will tend to shift towards the Pyrenees and northern Catalonia as the day progresses, so monitoring is maintained in the most exposed areas.

Given this scenario, the authorities recommend exercising extreme caution in open spaces and especially exposed points due to the risk of incidents associated with strong gusts. The alert remains active while the episode gradually subsides in Tarragona and advances towards the north of the territory.
