The assault suffered a few days ago by a worker at El Vendrell hospital in the center's car park has triggered concern among users and employees. The episode has reopened the debate about security in this parking area and has led the works council to demand a reinforcement of protection measures.

More surveillance in the hospital's surroundings

The Local Police councilor of El Vendrell, Christian Soriano, has assured that the surveillance rounds have already been increased in the hospital's surroundings. He has also specified that the City Council maintains contact with the Mossos d'Esquadra to reinforce the police presence in the area.

The concern is not limited to the staff of the health center. Among hospital users, alarm has also grown over security in the parking lot, a space widely used daily and which is now in the spotlight after this assault.

Possible cameras and meeting with the Xarxa Santa Tecla

Regarding the possible installation of cameras in the hospital car park, Soriano has recalled that it is a facility of the Xarxa Sanitària de Santa Tecla. The council plans to hold a meeting with this entity to study the available options.

From the Xarxa Sanitària de Santa Tecla itself, they have indicated that surveillance rounds have also been reinforced and that a meeting with the Mossos d'Esquadra is pending to coordinate actions. The entity adds that, if that analysis results in the recommendation to install surveillance cameras, that measure will be adopted.

Municipal request for other parking lots of the municipality

In parallel, the El Vendrell City Council has asked the Catalonia Video Surveillance Commission for authorization to incorporate two new surveillance cameras. The council already has permission for a network of 45 video surveillance devices.

The two requested cameras are not intended for the hospital, but for the car parks of Pèlag and Club d"Esports, two large parking areas in the municipality where users have also been demanding more control and surveillance presence.

The evolution of the measures in the hospital car park will now remain pending coordination between the City Council, the Santa Tecla Health Network and the Mossos d'Esquadra, in a context of growing concern among those who use this health facility in El Vendrell daily.
