A 46-year-old woman died after being run over by a vehicle on the A-2 highway, specifically in the municipality of Bell-lloc, in the region of Segrià. The accident occurred on Thursday at 10:10 p.m. at kilometer 474, heading towards Mollerussa.
Sources close to the incident indicated that the driver, identified as E.C.M., had previously been seen walking along the LL-11 road before suffering the impact. The severity of her injuries caused her death at the scene.
Five fatal victims in Lleida this year
This tragic episode raises to five the number of deaths from traffic accidents registered in the demarcation of Lleida so far this year. The figure represents an increase compared to the same period last year, when four deaths were registered.
"The situation is delicate and we must intensify prevention campaigns."
The provincial balance shows a worrying trend with four fatalities occurring on interurban roads and only one on an urban road. This distribution highlights the vulnerability of secondary roads and highways that cross the province.
Other serious accidents in the province
The day was also marked by other accidents of varying severity in different parts of the province. In Vinaixa, two people were injured when their vehicle collided with a wild boar on the AP-2 highway around 11:10 PM.
The affected were transferred to the Arnau de Vilanova hospital to receive medical attention. In parallel, near La Seu d'Urgell, a collision with four injured of varying degrees was registered at midday.
In Bassella, two cars collided on the C-14 and one of them fell down a 15-meter drop. The driver was evacuated by helicopter to the aforementioned hospital center. There was also an injured motorcyclist in Olius and two more with minor injuries in Soriguera.
A court case for negligent homicide
Meanwhile, in Alfarràs the regional police arrested the driver of a vehicle after fatally running over an 89-year-old resident. The detainee was charged with gross negligence homicide, according to judicial sources.
"The driver responsible for the fatal accident has been arrested."
These events are framed within a provincial context where April closed with five deaths, one more person than in the same month last year. The accumulation of accidents highlights the need to reinforce road safety.
Catalan balance general decline but critical localization
Territorially, the Catalan Traffic Service confirmed that the roads of Catalonia registered 33 deaths in 32 fatal accidents until April 30. This figure represents a decrease of 38% compared to the same period last year.
However, the number of seriously injured people amounts to 209, compared to 220 in the previous period. Of the 33 fatal victims, 26 were men and seven women. During the month of April, there were 11 deaths throughout the autonomous community.
