Up to 27 municipalities in Lleida have received offers from Sareb to take over plots and other properties that passed into its portfolio after the real estate crisis, with the aim of allocating them to housing or municipal facilities. In many cases, the transfers are proposed without cost to the city councils and, in others, through sales with very powerful discounts.

The operation has already taken concrete steps in several points of the territory. La Pobla de Segur and Vilaller have received this month land to build affordable housing, within the mandate that Sareb has since 2022 to transfer properties to public entities and promote housing policies.

Transfers underway in several regions of Lleida

In addition to these two municipalities, Sareb has offered plots to another 25 Lleida city councils to build flats or enable other public uses, among them green areas or parking lots. The proposal affects localities from different comarcas and in several cases the consistories are already studying the acceptance of the land.

In Alcarràs, the city council processes the acceptance of five plots. The deputy mayor, Gerard Companys, detailed that two of them could be allocated for housing due to their location.

"Is processing" the acceptance of five plots, "two of which could be dedicated to housing due to their good location" - Gerard Companys, deputy mayor of Alcarràs

The same municipal official specified that the council wants to address the management with broad political agreement.

"As it is not currently a priority, we will seek the consensus of all municipal groups to manage it" - Gerard Companys, deputy mayor of Alcarràs

Urgell and la Noguera analyze the uses of the lands

In Urgell, Vilagrassa has recently received the donation of a 1,583 m2 plot located at the entrance of the municipality. The council plans to accept the proposal, with a deadline until September, if a developer interested in building appears or if a change of classification is chosen to build a residence.

Tàrrega, Tornabous and Bellpuig also figure among the municipalities that have received offers. In the capital of Urgell, the council is studying the proposal. In Tornabous, if the transfer is finally accepted, the forecast involves enabling a parking lot for 10 vehicles.

In La Noguera, Balaguer has received two other plots and will analyze what purpose to give them. In Bellcaire d"Urgell, Sareb has ceded the old Civil Guard barracks, a property on which the city council wants to define a project linked to housing once the transfer is completed.

"It will be linked to housing" - Llorenç Llop, mayor of Bellcaire d"Urgell

The scope of these operations draws a broad map in the regions of Lleida, where the city councils evaluate if these assets can be converted into new affordable housing developments or into useful facilities for each municipality, depending on their needs and the urbanistic viability of each plot.
