The Mossos d'Esquadra have arrested in Les Borges Blanques two men aged 43 and 66 for their alleged connection with the clandestine manufacture and possession of homemade firearms. The investigation remains open to clarify the scope of this activity and the final destination of the seized weapons.

A wound on the hand uncovered the investigation

The procedure started last Wednesday, when a man went to the CAP with a wound on his hand compatible with firearm injuries. During the initial inquiries, the injured man admitted that he had received an accidental shot while handling a weapon.

The same individual handed over to the police two single-shot homemade weapons, of 22 mm caliber and without safety features. He also explained that he had bought them from a manufacturer from the same municipality.

Search at the domicile of the alleged manufacturer

The Investigation Unit of the Basic Police Area Pla d"Urgell i Les Garrigues located and arrested the alleged seller two days after the events. In the search of his home, the agents seized homemade single-shot pistols, in addition to parts and mechanisms used for their manufacture.

Along with that material, the Mossos seized an airsoft pistol, a compressed air carbine and ammunition. Everything seized has been transferred to the Weapons Unit of the Mossos d'Esquadra for its expert appraisal.

Two arrested and proceedings opened

The second detainee has been arrested as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of manufacturing, sale and illegal possession of weapons. The police maintain the investigation underway to determine if the manufactured weapons could have had other recipients besides those already located.

The two arrests place the focus on an alleged clandestine activity of manufacturing and distribution of homemade weapons in the capital of Les Garrigues, an aspect that now must be confirmed with the technical analysis of the seized material and the police proceedings still underway.
