The judge of the Criminal section of the Court of First Instance of Tarragona Plaza 4 has decreed the search, arrest and imprisonment of A.C.R. so that he serves the four-year prison sentence imposed for the death of two young women from Lleida in the accident at the Les Gavarres roundabout, on the T 11, which occurred on February 3, 2018.

The order arrives after the convicted person did not voluntarily enter prison after being requested on December 15, 2025. In that resolution, the magistrate urged him to enter on his own into a penitentiary center of his choice. By not attending to that mandate, the court has agreed to issue the requisition. The last address that appears for A.C.R. is in the Canary Islands.

Final judgment since July 2024

The conviction was appealed by the convict after the sentence issued by the Criminal Court. The proceedings then went through the Audiencia de Tarragona and later by the Supreme Court. All appeals were rejected and the sentence is final since July 2024.

A.C.R. was convicted of two crimes of gross negligent homicide and for two crimes against road safety, one for reckless driving and another for driving without ever having obtained a license. The resolution also establishes the prohibition of driving for six years.

In addition to the prison sentence, A.C.R. and the insurance company must compensate the families of the victims with approximately 350,000 euros. It must also pay 4,980 euros to the ministry of Fomento for the damages caused to the infrastructure.

The crash at the Les Gavarres roundabout

In the accident died a 27-year-old resident of Alcoletge and a 19-year-old woman from Lleida, who were traveling with him in the vehicle. The ruling considers it proven that he was driving at 117 km/h on a stretch limited to 40 km/h and that, in previous moments, he had reached to go at 200 km/h and in the opposite direction.

The judicial ruling also states that the driver was under the influence of alcohol, that he was going at a speed higher than allowed and that he had not obtained a driver's license.

During the trial held in April 2022, agents of the Mossos d'Esquadra explained that the car impacted "like a projectile" against the concrete wall of the Les Gavarres roundabout, on the T 11. The police also pointed out that A.C.R. refused to collaborate and that he also did not show interest in the condition of his companions.

Discomfort of the private prosecution

"Eight years after the events, he still has not set foot in prison" - Xavier Prats, lawyer for the family of one of the victims

"He wanted to make fun of the system to avoid prison. We will pursue him wherever necessary to do justice" - Xavier Prats, lawyer for the family of one of the victims

With the requisition already agreed, the police forces must locate the convicted person to place him at judicial disposal and execute his entry into prison for a case that remains very present in Tarragona and in the regions of Lleida due to the seriousness of the facts and due to the long wait until the effective fulfillment of the sentence.
