The Court of Lleida has sentenced this Thursday to 2 years in prison the accused of trying to take a 7-year-old child in the city. The sentence has been imposed for a crime of illegal detention in an attempted degree after the man acknowledged the facts by virtue of an agreement of conformity between the Prosecutor's Office and the defense.
The sentence is final and cannot be appealed. As the convicted person had no prior record, the court has agreed to suspend the prison sentence for 3 years, on the condition that they do not re-offend during that period.
The events occurred in February 2024
The events date back to February 9, 2024. That day, the minor was walking with his parents through Lleida when they crossed paths with the now convicted. At that moment, the accused grabbed the child by the back and left in the opposite direction to the one the parents were following.
The intervention of several people who encountered the man proved key. That group prevented him from being able to flee with the minor. It was then that he released the child and could be arrested.
Agreement between the parties
Initially, the Prosecutor's Office requested a sentence of 4 years in prison for the defendant. Finally, the procedure was resolved with an agreement of conformity signed between the prosecution and the defense, which reduced the initial request and avoided the trial being held as planned.
The court orally convicted him this Thursday in the Lleida Court in accordance with that agreement. The prison sentence has been suspended for 3 years due to his lack of a criminal record.
Measures imposed by the court
Among the conditions set for maintaining the suspension of the sentence, the court has imposed on the man the prohibition of communicating with the victim and her parents, as well as not approaching them within 200 meters.
In this way, the case is resolved by a final judgment after the acknowledgment of the facts by the defendant, with a sentence that remains suspended as long as the conditions imposed by the Court of Lleida are met.
