The CGT of Lleida turns 40 with more than 700 members in the province and close to a hundred delegates in companies at the end of last year.
It was born at the end of 1986 driven by four militants and today it remains behind other unions in implementation, although it has gained weight in public administration, education, and healthcare.
The first headquarters of 1988 accelerated an expansion that reached metal and banking
The organization obtained its first union representation in Correos in 1987.
The opening of a stable headquarters in 1988 and the general strike of December 14 of that year marked its expansion.
During the 1990s, affiliation went from tens to several hundreds and the CGT established itself in the metal, banking, education, healthcare, Renfe, and Telefónica sectors.
In 1992, Lleida hosted the IV Congress of CGT Catalunya, which reinforced its identity within the confederal structure.

The anniversary brings together events until June 26 in various parts of Lleida
The commemoration began on April 29 with a photographic exhibition at the Rectorate of the University of Lleida.
On May 15th there will be a concert at the la Boite venue with Tribade, Doble AA and Ponent Roots.
The CGT has collaborated with Lleida Treballadora, La Maranya and independentist collectives.
She has also participated in platforms against high-voltage power lines in the Pyrenees, neighborhood movements, the provincial feminist movement, and the defense of seasonal workers.
In the 2000s, the union accessed institutional spaces in the Diputació and the Lleida city council and organized telemarketing workers.
A new generation of militants linked to libertarian and cultural movements then promoted the creation of the Ateneu Libertari de Lleida.
The commemoration will conclude on June 26 with a rally in Plaça Sant Francesc and a popular dinner at the Ateneu Cooperatiu la Baula.
