A hailstorm affected agricultural holdings in at least eight municipalities in the province of Lleida this Tuesday afternoon, with damage recorded in Soses, Torres de Segre, Puigverd de Lleida, Artesa de Lleida, Miralcamp, el Palau d'Anglesola, Juneda, and Bovera.
The episode leaves a clear difference compared to the two previous hailstorms of the season in the area that follows the ADV of les Terres de Ponent. It was not a localized focus, but a more widespread storm, with impact in several municipal terms and with special incidence in farms that did not have anti-hail nets.
The hailstorm reached eight municipalities and was the third of the season
The ADV of Terres de Ponent detailed that the size of the hail was variable. In the same storm, it fell from hailstones to pieces similar to a chickpea, with some specimens slightly larger than a hazelnut.
In addition to the size of the stones, the extent of the damage marked the episode. The two previous storms had had a smaller scope, while that of this Tuesday extended over a wider area within the province of Lleida.
Among the municipalities with damages are points in Segrià, such as Soses, Torres de Segre, Puigverd de Lleida and Artesa de Lleida, along with others such as Miralcamp, el Palau d'Anglesola, Juneda and Bovera.
Farms without anti-hail nets concentrated damage on fruits, leaves, and branches
The greatest damage was recorded in the farms that did not have protection. In those plots, the hail caused injuries to the fruits and affected leaves and branches, according to the information provided by the ADV of les Terres de Ponent.
The exact scope of the damages is not yet finalized. Over the next few days, technicians will inspect the affected properties to determine the extent of the damage and calculate potential economic losses.
For now, the confirmed data is that this has been the third hail episode of the season in the study area of ADV Terres de Ponent.
