A group of protesters blocked the road connecting Bellcaire and Pedrís this Sunday to show their rejection of the Cpbirgy biogas plant. The protest is concentrated in the municipality of La Sentiu de Sió, where the company plans to build a facility that would be the largest of its kind in Southern Europe.

The platform denounces lack of municipal licenses

The Pobles Vius Platform assures that the developer lacks the necessary building permits granted by the town councils of La Sentiu and Bellcaire d'Urgell. This absence of local authorization fuels the tension between residents and the administration.

Activists consider that this irregular situation reinforces their legal arguments against the implementation of the industrial complex in the agricultural zone.

Justice reviews environmental authorization

The High Court of Justice of Catalonia agreed on April 24 to initiate the processing of the contentious-administrative appeal. The lawsuit challenges the environmental authorization granted by the Generalitat for the project.

There is also another resource admitted for processing that questions the approval of the Special Urban Plan linked to the works. The platform's lawyers are studying coordinating both judicial avenues to stop the execution.

Maintenance of public subsidy

The Ministry of Agriculture has extended until February 1, 2027, the financial aid intended for the construction company. The amount is 4.5 million euros for La Sentiu Bioenergy and facilitates the financial continuity of the project despite neighborhood opposition.

The administrative decision maintains institutional backing for the complex while the courts evaluate the legality of the environmental and urban planning permits already issued.
