The Pardinyes Sostenible platform has started a signature collection to request the halting of the two residential towers that Metrovacesa is planning on a plot next to the Llotja, in the Pardinyes neighborhood of Lleida. The entity focuses its rejection on the location of the plot and on the impact that, in its opinion, the development would have on the immediate surroundings.
The controversy also arises over land that is not municipally owned. While the platform calls on the Paeria to stop the action and open a dialogue about the future of the plot, the land belongs to Metrovacesa, which places the conflict between the municipality's decision-making power and the property's urban planning rights.
Pardinyes Sostenible asks the Paeria to open a dialogue about the 261 homes
Pardinyes Sostenible maintains that the plot where the towers are planned is in a flood-prone area. With this argument, the platform has launched the signature campaign with the intention of stopping a project that contemplates 261 homes next to one of the most recognizable facilities in the neighborhood.
The entity also links the operation to increased pressure on Pardinyes' services. In its view, the 261 homes will saturate the basic and school services of the neighborhood if the development proceeds under the current terms.
To this objection, it adds another concerning daily life in the Llotja area. Pardinyes Sostenible warns of mobility, accessibility, and parking problems in an area that already concentrates residential activity and facilities.
The neighborhood association avoids taking a single stance on the towers
Not all neighborhood representation maintains the same position on the initiative. The Pardinyes neighborhood association has not commented on the signature collection, indicating that there are residents within the neighborhood who do support the project.
This lack of a unanimous position adds complexity to the debate opened in Pardinyes. The opposition organized by the platform coexists with a part of the neighborhood that does not reject the development promoted by Metrovacesa on the plot adjacent to the Llotja.
For now, Pardinyes Sostenible's specific request is to open a dialogue process with the Paeria about land that, despite being at the center of the neighborhood's urban planning discussion, is owned by Metrovacesa and not the municipality.
