Mollerussa will comprehensively renew its public lighting with a contract for 4,244,097.47 euros and a duration of 13 years, which the ordinary plenary session on Thursday must submit for award. The action plans to replace 2,920 luminaires with LED technology and renew 136 outdoor light points in municipal facilities.

The paradox of the project lies in the scale of the initial outlay compared to the projected cut in the electricity bill. The city council calculates that energy consumption will decrease by 71% and that annual savings will be around 375,000 euros, going from 1.68 million kWh per year to just over 473,631 kWh.

The mayor Marc Solsona and the councilor for Sustainability, Energy Transition, and New Construction, Josep Maria Garrofé, presented the details of an intervention that will be carried out between June 2026 and June 2027. Before that, the awarded company will have two months to draft the projects.

The contract reduced the initial budget by 30%

The award went to Sociedad Española de Construcciones for 4,244,097.47 euros, with a 30% reduction on the starting budget. The council is processing the operation by adhering to the framework agreement of the Associació Catalana de Municipis for energy efficiency services in public lighting.

In addition to changing the luminaires, the project includes the installation of 50 new columns and the replacement of 150 points in poor condition. It also includes painting work on 478 lampposts and anti-corrosion treatment on more than 2,000 columns in the municipal network.

The renovation will reach the sports field and schoolyards

The renewal will affect both public roads and outdoor spaces of municipal facilities. These include the sports field and the courtyards of school centers, where the city council plans to work on 136 light points.

With this intervention, the council aims to sustainably reduce the electricity consumption of the entire network. The projected jump takes annual demand from 1.68 million kWh to just over 473,631 kWh.

According to the budgetary calendar, the annual amount planned for 2026 amounts to 124,673.86 euros. The rest of the expenditure will be distributed until May 2039 and will depend on the approval of the municipal budgets for each fiscal year.

In the same plenary session on Thursday, the city council will also debate raising summer pool season tickets by five euros and applying a 12% update to aquatic courses and activities, which will go from 35 to about 40 euros.
