The Agramunt City Council and the Consorci per a la Normalizació Lingüística de l'Urgell presented the campaign "Quan parles fas màgia" on Friday to identify municipal facilities, businesses, and shops that commit to serving customers in Catalan.
The initiative comes with a new Department of Linguistic Policy created at the end of 2025 and with an explicit objective set by councilwoman Mònica Marquilles, who summarized the municipal priority as follows: that Catalan continues to be spoken in Agramunt.
The new department presented the campaign alongside the Voluntariat per la Llengua
The campaign is structured through the Voluntariat per la Llengua and seeks to identify spaces in the municipality that undertake the commitment to offer service in Catalan. The scope includes municipal facilities as well as businesses and shops in Agramunt.
During Friday's event, the Department of Linguistic Policy was also officially presented. The municipal department had been created at the end of 2025.
"The objective is that Catalan continues to be spoken in Agramunt" - Mònica Marquilles, councilwoman of Linguistic Policy, Agramunt City Council
Marquilles placed the campaign within a previous line of work. The councilwoman explained that actions in this area had already been promoted for years and that, more explicitly, the city council began with the Vincles project, focused on promoting immersion with more colloquial Catalan through conversation.
The council held a session for public service staff
In addition to the institutional presentation, a linguistic awareness session was organized on Friday for municipal workers in direct public service and for those in charge of municipal facilities.
The action connects the campaign with the daily operation of municipal services, as it focuses on the professionals who regularly serve citizens and on public spaces that join the linguistic commitment.
Marquilles recalled that the Vincles project had worked on immersion through conversation and a more colloquial use of Catalan. That precedent was incorporated into the event with which the Agramunt City Council officially unveiled the Department of Linguistic Policy, created at the end of 2025.
