The Consorci del Turó de la Seu Vella has appointed Robert Porta Roigé as the new director of the monumental complex of Lleida, replacing Joan Baigol, who is retiring after ten years in the position.
The change comes at a time of increased activity in the historical site. While the consortium prepares for new conservation works and the 750th anniversary of the consecration of the Seu Vella in 2028, visits to the Turó grew by 4.5% in 2025, reaching 67,093 visitors.
Robert Porta will assume the directorship after a decade of Joan Baigol
Porta holds a degree in History from the Universitat de Lleida and in Documentation from the Universitat de Barcelona, in addition to specializing in Archival Science from the UNED. Until now, he directed the monastery of Les Avellanes, where he held this responsibility since 2015.
Before taking over the direction of the monastery, he also managed the Hostatgeria and coordinated social, cultural, and heritage preservation activities. The general council of the consortium approved his appointment as Baigol's successor.
The Turó had 67,093 visits in 2025 and faces works worth 1.2 million in Louvigny
Attendance figures indicate sustained growth for the complex. Between January and April 2025, the Turó registered 29,877 visitors and attendees at events, an increase from the 27,707 recorded in the same period of the previous year.
In the entirety of 2025, visits increased from 64,233 to 67,093. Of the total users, 73% were from Catalonia, 10% from the rest of Spain, and 17% from other countries, mostly European.
At the same time, the consortium has carried out conservation work on the lower walls of the Llengua de Serp, the slope above the Auditori, the Baluard del Rei, and the courtyard wall of the Castell del Rei. The investment amounts to 500,000 euros and includes the actions planned for 2025 on the Llengua de Serp.
La Paeria has also reported a contribution of 500,000 euros from the Ministry of Culture to rehabilitate the upper platform of the Baluard de Louvigny. The total budget for this intervention amounts to 1.2 million euros.
In addition to the works, the consortium will promote a civic commission to prepare for the 750th anniversary of the consecration of the Seu Vella, an event scheduled for 2028.
