The Bombers de la Generalitat declared the fire in the Mitjana park, in Lleida, extinguished yesterday at 6:36 PM, after inspecting the area and ruling out hot spots. The Guardia Urbana plans to reopen access to the park first thing this morning, while the Mossos d'Esquadra are keeping the investigation open to identify the perpetrator or perpetrators.

The fire was intentional and began on Monday in three locations in the Camí de Granyena area. The flames scorched 4.2 hectares of riparian forest in a natural area that was supposed to be protected, on a day when the Bombers also had to intervene in three other fires in the city during the early hours of yesterday.

The extinguishing was completed yesterday afternoon, when the crews finished inspecting the perimeter and confirmed that there were no hot spots left. The municipal plan now involves reopening access to the park from first thing this morning.

The investigation by the Mossos d'Esquadra remains focused on the origin of the fire, which was declared intentional from the outset. The key piece of information is the appearance of three ignition points at the start of the fire, all located in the vicinity of the Camí de Granyena.

In the same context of fire prevention in Catalonia, Endesa has detailed its forest protection plan for next year. The company announced a 44% increase in planned investment for 2026, reaching 38.1 million euros.

The Bombers acted in three more fires during the same early morning

During the early hours of yesterday, the Bombers de la Generalitat responded to three other fires in Lleida. The incidents included the burning of 40 square meters of scrubland and a caravan next to the LL-11, damage to four containers on Mestre Tonet street, and the burning of vegetation in a building at number three of the Príncep Joan Carles complex.

These services coincided with the final phase of controlling the Mitjana fire. The series of calls occurred at the same time the city awaited the reopening of one of its most frequented natural spaces.

For its part, the plan presented by Endesa is based on three lines of work. The company will focus on cleaning the area around the electrical grid, using helicopters for thermography and visual inspections, and reviewing installations.

In Catalonia, 53% of Endesa's 100,058 kilometers of power lines are aerial and pass through wooded or vegetated areas, a figure that the company places at the center of its protection plan for 2026.
