The first ten days of April 2026 have been the second warmest in Lleida city in the last 86 years, in an unusual heat episode for these dates that has left very high values in several points of the plain and of Catalonia as a whole. The contrast will arrive this Sunday, when a sharp drop in temperatures and the possible return of snow to the Pyrenees is expected.
Anomalous heat in the capital of Segrià
Aemet places this start of April among the warmest since records began in the capital of Segrià. In Lleida city, the thermometer reached 28.5 ºC, within a first ten days of the month that is only behind the most extreme precedent, that of 2011, when 33 ºC was reached.
The episode has also left particularly high maximums in other parts of the province. Seròs recorded 30.5 ºC and was again the highest temperature in Lleida for the second consecutive day. Also, 29.9 ºC were recorded in Alcarràs, 28.8 ºC in Vallfogona de Balaguer, 28.7 ºC in Alfarràs, 29 ºC in Sant Romà d"Abella and 28.5 ºC in La Pobla de Segur.
Vinebre recorded the maximum of Catalonia
In the country as a whole, the highest temperature was recorded in Vinebre, in the Ribera d"Ebre, with 30.7 ºC, according to the Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya. The records consolidate a clearly exceptional episode for the first part of April, with values more typical of late spring or even the beginning of summer in several inland regions.
Turn of time starting from Sunday
The forecast now points to a marked change. For Sunday, a drop of between 15 and 20 degrees is expected compared to the temperatures of recent days, which will return values to a much colder scenario in a few hours.
That change in air masses can also have effects at high altitudes. The forecast contemplates possible snowfalls in the Pyrenees below 1,500 meters, in a marked meteorological shift after several days of anomalous heat in a good part of the Lleida regions and the rest of Catalonia.
