The General Directorate of Traffic has proposed carrying out practical driving tests on Saturdays starting from the second fortnight of May with the objective of reducing the waiting list. The organization stated that there are 5,000 people waiting to get their driving license at this moment.

New operation in Lleida and Navarra

The plan will be launched on a pilot basis in Lleida and Navarra to increase the number of tests through itinerant examiners. The extra exams will only be for tests for the class B driver's license. In the first quarter of this year, 3,299 tests were carried out, representing 1.02% less than in the same period of 2025.

Rejection of the driving school guild

The meeting in which the proposal was communicated was with the Associació d"Autoescoles de Lleida and the sub-delegate of the Government, José Crespín, intervened. Regarding Saturday exams, the entity said that with the conditions proposed it is a measure perceived in the sector as a genuine rip-off because it is limited to Lleida leaving out students from La Seu Solsona Vielha or Puigcerdà it is only for permit B and has been communicated with an absolutely insufficient margin.

"we are facing a shock plan that requires a joint effort" - José Crespín, Government Subdelegate

The Association of Driving Schools of Lleida had indicated that by mid-April the situation was unsustainable and that the waiting time could reach four months. The association acknowledged the DGT's willingness to try to improve the situation, which has been absolutely unsustainable for years, but added that if it is not accompanied by real structural measures, it is insufficient because it does not address the underlying problem.

The DGT requested driving schools to provide a list of people who are ready to take the driving test. The provincial head of the Traffic Department, M. José Soler, participated with the deputy delegate in the communication of the new operation.
