The year-on-year CPI in the province of Lleida reached 1.7% in February, one tenth more than the previous month, according to data published this Friday by the National Institute of Statistics.

Lleida registers the lowest inflation of the country

The province of Lleida was situated, along with Ávila and Burgos, as the demarcation with the lowest annual inflation in Spain during the month of February. This data reinforces the trend of price moderation in the area, in contrast with other provinces of the State.

In monthly terms, the CPI in Lleida increased six tenths in February. The behavior of prices in the province shows notable differences between sectors. Food and non-alcoholic beverages rose up to 3.8% in February, one point more than in January.

Variations by sectors in Lleida

The INE report details that the price of fuels, gas, electricity, water and housing fell to 1.6% in February, which represents a decrease of seven tenths compared to the previous month. On the other hand, restaurants and accommodations experienced a rebound, going from 2.8% in January to 3.3% in February.

Alcoholic beverages and tobacco decreased three tenths in Lleida during February. Also clothing and footwear registered a decrease of four tenths. Transport cut one tenth in January, while education remained stable at 2.2%.

Context in Catalonia and forecast of international impact

In Catalonia as a whole, inflation remained at 2% in February. The monthly index rose five tenths in the Catalan territory, according to the same report.

The published data do not yet reflect the possible effects derived from the war in the Middle East. The impact of this conflict on prices will be analyzed in the next report of the INE.
