More than 500 people, including teachers and students, demonstrated this Tuesday morning in Lleida in a day of protests that began at 9:30 a.m. with a march from the Official School of Languages to Escola Alba along the C-12 highway and ended with blockades also on the A-2.
The mobilization reached the highway before the meeting with the ministry began. The unions had pushed to open negotiations and, even so, maintained that the proposals put forward so far were insufficient, so they maintained protest actions for a good part of the day.
More than 500 protesters blocked the C-12 and then blocked the A-2 in both directions
The first action started at 9:30 a.m., when the demonstration left the Official School of Languages heading towards Escola Alba via the C-12. During the rally, temperatures exceeded 30 degrees.
The blockade of the C-12 was lifted mid-morning. Before reopening the road, maintenance services cleaned the roadway.
At 11:00 a.m., the protest moved to the A-2, which was blocked in both directions. The traffic interruption ended later, when the participants agreed in assembly to lift the blockade and consider the day closed.
Unions maintained pressure until a meeting that started more than an hour late
USTEC, CGT, Profesores de Secundària, and Intersindical argued that the mobilizations had forced the Department of Education to sit down and talk, although they considered the proposals put on the table up to that point to be insufficient.
The meeting between the unions and the ministry was initially scheduled for 3:00 p.m., but it began at 4:15 p.m. This delay coincided with the end of a day marked by road blockades on two of Lleida's main access routes.
Maintenance services cleaned the roads before their reopening, both on the C-12 and after the blockade of the A-2, on a day that took place with temperatures above 30 degrees.
