A 70-year-old man from La Seu d'Urgell was rescued alive yesterday afternoon after spending three days trapped in his home, unable to move and without access to food or water. The resident, who lives alone, had fallen out of bed and could not get up or ask for help.
The alert did not come from a call from the home, but from the Esplai for the elderly of the Fundació La Caixa in the city, where the man went every day. His absence raised alarms and triggered an intervention that ended with the forced opening of the apartment.
The Esplai detected the absence of a user who attended daily
The Local Police went to the home after receiving the notice, but received no response when they knocked. In the building, several neighbors also confirmed that they had not seen him for several days.
With these indications, the Bombers de la Generalitat entered the home and found the man fallen next to the bed, unable to get up. He had been in that situation inside the apartment for three days.
The SEM transferred the resident to the hospital in La Seu d'Urgell
After the rescue, the Sistema d'Emergències Mèdiques attended to the resident at the scene and organized his transfer. The man was admitted to the hospital in La Seu d'Urgell, where he remained under observation.
The intervention was activated yesterday afternoon after the Esplai for the elderly of the Fundació La Caixa noticed that the user had not attended, an unusual absence for a person who attended the center daily.
