The Departament d"Educació has held this Thursday at its headquarters the public draw that sets the tie-breaking number for school pre-registration for the 2026 2027 academic year for second cycle of early childhood education, primary, and ESO. The chosen number has been 42,129, which will serve to order the applications tied in score in the admission process to public and subsidized schools of Catalunya.
How the tie-breaker will be applied
The system establishes that tied applications will be ordered starting from number 42,129 in ascending order until the end of the list. When the last assigned number is reached, the count will continue from 1 until returning again to the tie-breaking number. In this way, the definitive order of priority for awarding school places is set.
This mechanism is especially relevant in centers with more demand, especially in large cities and in highly sought-after schools, where many families end up with similar scores due to criteria such as proximity to the center, the existence of enrolled siblings, or the socioeconomic situation.
Upcoming dates of the process
According to the planned calendar, this Wednesday the definitive ordered list of applications will be published. In that list, families will be able to consult their position after the application of the tie-breaking number.
The final allocation of school places will be made public on June 10, a key date for families who are waiting for a place in the centers with more demand pressure for the next academic year.
