The Generalitat de Catalunya, the Diputació de Lleida, and eight town councils signed an agreement this Thursday to act on three road axes in Les Garrigues Altes with a total investment of 18.4 million euros and a horizon of works until 2028.
The agreement addresses the improvement of heavily used roads and paths in the area, but leaves open one of the main local demands. The town councils of Torrebesses and Castelldans maintain the demand for new road bypasses while the conversion and rehabilitation of some of these routes progresses.
The Generalitat will take over the road between Torrebesses and Castelldans after its rehabilitation
One of the central points of the agreement affects the road between Torrebesses and Castelldans. The action foresees its rehabilitation and its conversion into a road owned by the Generalitat de Catalunya.
With this change, the route will cease to depend on the current scheme and will be integrated into the regional network. Even so, the two municipalities involved also demand the construction of new road bypasses.
The Diputació de Lleida will manage the C-233 and maintain the Bellaguarda road for five years
The agreement also includes the improvement of the C-233 road between La Granadella and El Soleràs. When the works are completed, the management of this section will pass to the Diputació de Lleida.
In addition, the road between Bellaguarda and Els Torms will be rehabilitated within the same agreement. Afterwards, the Diputació de Lleida will assume its maintenance for five years.
The municipalities involved in this last axis ask for the infrastructure to acquire supramunicipal ownership. The demand coexists with a temporary solution that fixes provincial maintenance but does not yet resolve this change of assignment.
The planning agreed upon by the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Diputació de Lleida, and the eight town councils places the completion of the works in 2028, with a total investment of 18.4 million euros for the three road axes of Les Garrigues Altes.
