The Ricard Viñes square in Lleida hosted a blood and breast milk donation campaign organized by the Banc de Sang yesterday, with a tent open from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM. The day ended with 160 blood donations, five breast milk donations, and two bone marrow donations.
The most striking figure came with plasma. The Banc de Sang launched a campaign this week to increase donations because, despite the increase recorded in Lleida last year, contributions still do not cover medical needs.
Ricard Viñes square gathered 160 blood donations in a single day
The event was held in the city center with a format open to passersby for ten hours. In addition to blood collection, the initiative also included breast milk donation and the possibility of becoming a bone marrow donor.
Furthermore, the initiative coincided with World Day and included a prize draw for women who participated as breast milk donors.
The day also had an educational component with a photographic exhibition set up in the same square. The images were the work of Lleida photographer Ares Juclà.
Banc de Sang launches another campaign because plasma still does not cover demand
The result of the day coincides with another ongoing need this week. The Banc de Sang has started a specific campaign to increase plasma donations in Lleida.
The reason is that last year's progress is not enough. Although plasma contributions grew significantly in the region, the current volume remains below healthcare needs.
During yesterday's campaign in Ricard Viñes square, the final tally also included five breast milk donations and two bone marrow donations.
