Lleida expects to consolidate itself as the main stone fruit producing territory in Catalonia in this year's campaign, with 403,970 tons and an increase of 14% compared to the previous year. The figures were presented this Thursday by Afrucat and the Departament d'Agricultura at Interprunus, the international forum dedicated to this sector.
The advance also comes after a shorter previous campaign, with growth in both nectarine and peach. The improvement, however, is not yet definitive because the final result depends on the impact of the climate in recent months.
Lleida concentrates 403,970 tons and rises 14% in the campaign
Forecasts place Lleida as the Catalan territory with the largest volume of stone fruit production. The figure of 403,970 tons keeps it at the forefront of a key agricultural activity in the demarcation.
This 14% increase is supported by the upward trend of two of the most important crops in the campaign, as the production of nectarine and peach has grown compared to the previous year.
Interprunus hosted this Thursday forecasts still pending climate
Afrucat and the Departament d'Agricultura released these estimates at Interprunus, the international meeting focused on stone fruit. The forum served to present the start of the campaign at a time marked by the evolution of Lleida's production.
For now, the figures are provisional. The final results will depend on the possible impact of the climate recorded in recent months, a factor that can still alter the final balance of the campaign.
The presentation of the forecasts took place this Thursday at Interprunus, where Afrucat and the Departament d'Agricultura placed the forecast production of stone fruit in Lleida at 403,970 tons.
