A 43-year-old motorcyclist, a resident of Santa Coloma de Gramenet, has lost his life in a traffic accident on the AP-7 highway during the early hours of today. The incident occurred at the municipal boundary of La Granada, in the Alt Penedès, affecting the highway at kilometer marker 188.5. Authorities have confirmed the death at the scene as a direct consequence of the impact.

The events occurred around 01:59. The Mossos d'Esquadra have mobilized seven patrols to secure the scene and open an investigation into the exact causes of the crash. Emergency services quickly attended the scene, where a unit from the Bombers de la Generalitat and two SEM units intervened. Despite the efforts deployed by the paramedics, they could not prevent the driver's death.

Third death of a motorcyclist so far this year

This tragedy raises to 32 the number of people deceased on Catalan roads since the beginning of this year. Fourteen of these deaths correspond to motorcycle users, a figure that highlights the vulnerability of this type of vehicle on high-capacity roads. The AP-7 highway continues to be a critical corridor for territorial and commercial mobility, which requires special attention to road safety.

Given the situation, the Servei Català de Trànsit reiterates the need to exercise extreme caution. Authorities urge drivers to remain prudent, with particular emphasis on nighttime hours and travel on high-traffic infrastructure. Speed management and maintaining a safe distance are presented as determining factors in preventing fatal accidents on these types of journeys.

Police investigations will continue to be developed to determine if there are aggravating circumstances or mechanical failures that explain the extent of the accident. Meanwhile, traffic on the affected section continues to be normalized after the cleaning and road restoration work, although drivers remain vigilant due to the dark conditions typical of the night.
