The Mossos d'Esquadra have arrested Dino Marcello Miller, 56, in Lleida for attempting to rob a supermarket in the Pardinyes neighborhood on Friday afternoon with a toy gun. The arrested individual will be brought before the court on duty in the city today.

The arrest came just one month after he was released from the Ponent Penitentiary Center, where he was considered dangerous and at high risk of reoffending. This gap between his recent release and the new attempted robbery led to the activation of non-invasive monitoring measures before the foiled assault.

The suspect threatened a worker on Baró de Maials and fled

The attempted robbery occurred at 4:00 PM in a supermarket on Baró de Maials street, in Pardinyes. There, the man threatened a worker with a weapon and fled the establishment without completing the robbery.

Later, the Mossos d'Esquadra identified the suspect from security camera footage. A Local Police patrol located him an hour and a half later on Enric Pubill Lo Parrano street, in the Balàfia neighborhood.

The investigation attributes the attempted assault to a man with a long criminal record. His past offenses include the murder for money of former police officer Josep Gilart, the death of a police officer during a bank robbery, and the homicide of another man in Barcelona.

He had left Ponent a month ago and had a history of other assaults

Miller had left the Ponent Penitentiary Center one month before his new arrest. During that period, and due to the risk of reoffending attributed to him within the prison system, non-invasive monitoring measures had been activated.

His name had reappeared in April 2021, when police arrested him for two violent assaults in Lleida supermarkets. The new attempted robbery once again places him targeting the same type of commercial establishment and in the same city.

Regarding his profile, Vicenç Alujas, a psychologist and former head of the DERT unit at Brians prison, was emphatic in his assessment of his situation.

"He is a psychopath and is not rehabilitated because he doesn't want to be" - Vicenç Alujas, psychologist and former head of the DERT unit at Brians prison

The 56-year-old arrested individual was located on Enric Pubill Lo Parrano street in Balàfia an hour and a half after the attempted robbery committed at 4:00 PM on Baró de Maials.
