Lleida will host the 1st National Forum on Live Animal Transport on Friday, May 29, an event that will bring together more than 200 representatives from the agri-food sector, administrations, experts, and transporters in the city. The meeting is promoted by the National Association of Live Animal Transporters, 3tres3, and Mercolleida.

The event comes with a clear focus on a contradiction that affects the sector. The forum will address the disinfection of trucks with nebulizers during journeys, a practice permitted by current regulations but which, according to the organizers, continues to face administrative hurdles.

Lleida will bring together more than 200 animal transport professionals

The capital of Segrià has been chosen for its strategic position for livestock farmers within the Zaragoza, Lleida, Vic, and Girona axis. This corridor concentrates a significant part of the activity related to the movement of live animals and explains the choice of the city as the venue for this first edition.

In addition to transporters, the forum will convene representatives from administrations and specialists from the agri-food sector. The objective of the meeting is to bring together in one space the different actors involved in an activity subject to sanitary, logistical, and regulatory requirements.

The forum will discuss ASF and the new European animal welfare regulation

The planned debates will address African Swine Fever, animal welfare, and the new European regulation proposal on this matter. The program thus places at the center two issues that directly affect both the daily operations of transport and the sector's framework of obligations.

One of the points that will be defended during the event will be the use of nebulizers to disinfect trucks while they are on their journeys. Along with this demand, the promoters of the meeting plan to present the administrative difficulties that, they maintain, persist despite this possibility being contemplated in current regulations.

The agenda will also include a round table with truck drivers from different specialties. The format seeks to incorporate the direct experience of professionals working in different segments of live animal transport.

The 1st National Forum on Live Animal Transport will be held in Lleida on Friday, May 29, with the participation of the National Association of Live Animal Transporters, 3tres3, and Mercolleida.
