The town councils of Pla d'Urgell and the county council have presented a joint proposal to recover housing intended for medical personnel. The objective is to facilitate the arrival and establishment of family doctors in the region.

This initiative is integrated into a broader package of actions that address mobility, work-life balance, and family support. Local administrations seek to encourage healthcare professionals to establish their life projects in the territory in a stable manner.

The coverage deficit exceeds fifty percent

The current situation of primary care in the area presents significant structural imbalances. Actual coverage hours were 1,018 compared to the planned 2,040 during a month of ordinary activity. This data reflects a considerable gap between available resources and theoretical planning.

The Basic Health Area (ABS) of Pla d'Urgell is under high care pressure. It has the largest number of assigned patients in the entire Lleida demarcation. At the regional level, it ranks 13th in Catalonia by volume of users.

The plan contemplates adjusting the real size of the medical staff to the effective needs of the territory. The discrepancy between the workload and the covered schedules evidences the urgency of reviewing the current ratios.

Urgent complaint to CatSalut after union meeting

On Wednesday, a meeting took place with representatives of the Metges de Catalunya union. The attendees shared the diagnosis of primary care and demanded a specific and urgent response from CatSalut regarding the shortage of professionals.

The recovery of doctors' houses is proposed as a key tool for territorial integration. Local authorities insist that housing is a determining factor in retaining healthcare talent in rural areas.

The proposal includes work-life balance and family support measures to reduce staff turnover. The town councils expect these actions to reverse the current trend of insufficient medical hours in the region's clinics.
