The students of the Faculty of Education, Psychology and Social Work of the Universitat de Lleida handed over nine Xuklis this Tuesday to the Lleida delegation of the Association of Families and Friends of Children with Cancer of Catalonia, Afanoc. The initiative unites university work and school awareness around childhood cancer.
The handover stems from an unusual paradox in the classroom. An object conceived to accompany children with cancer has also become a pedagogical tool to train future teachers and work on values such as inclusion, emotional support, and visibility for affected families in schools.
Thirty students created nine pieces to address childhood cancer in classrooms
About thirty students from the Visual Arts and Creativity subject created the nine Xuklis for this edition. Their proposals focused on strength, hope, support, and overcoming adversity.
Xuklis are used as a pedagogical and awareness tool about childhood cancer in schools. The collaboration thus connects the Faculty of Education, Psychology and Social Work of the UdL with the Lleida delegation of Afanoc in a project with direct application outside the university.
Since the beginning of this line of work, more than a hundred Xuklis have been made from recycled materials. This volume places the initiative beyond a one-off action and consolidates it as a sustained activity within student training.
The faculty wants to expand collaboration with new joint actions
David Aguilar, dean of the faculty, announced that the center wants to expand collaboration in the future with new joint actions. The objective is to continue raising awareness about this disease and give visibility to affected families.
Furthermore, Aguilar framed this continuity in the training of future education professionals committed to inclusion, emotional support, and social transformation. The initiative thus maintains a dual aspect, with pedagogical utility and social projection.
In this edition, the handover brought together about thirty students who made nine Xuklis for the Lleida delegation of Afanoc during Tuesday's session.
