María Pilar Callejero has taken over this Wednesday as the provincial chief of the National Police in Lleida, in a ceremony held at the sub-delegation and before around a hundred attendees. Her appointment makes her the first woman to hold this position in the province.
The new head takes over from Commissioner Antonio Royo, who was dismissed before the year began. The dismissal occurred after it became known that he had been convicted by the Audiencia de Guipúzcoa in 2003 for sexual harassment, when he was leading a group in the Basque Country.
Change at the provincial leadership
During the official ceremony, Callejero swore in the position at the sub-delegation. The handover of the baton of command was carried out by the superior chief of the National Police in Catalonia, Manuel Rodríguez Jiménez, in an institutional ceremony that formalized the change at the head of the provincial structure in Lleida.
Callejero is also the third provincial commissioner in Catalonia, a fact that places this change within a still minority presence of women in the highest territorial responsibilities of the corps.
The context of the appointment
The arrival of Callejero occurs after the departure of Antonio Royo, removed from the position before the year began. The dismissal opened a new stage in the provincial leadership of Lleida, which is now under the direction of a new chief commissioner in a context marked by that change.
The swearing-in ceremony brought together about a hundred people and served to stage the start of this new stage at the head of the National Police in Lleida, with Callejero already in command of the provincial police station.
