The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility will immediately commission a feasibility study to build a new railway halt on Onze de Setembre avenue in Lleida, next to the Arnau de Vilanova and Santa Maria hospitals. The action is proposed as a new connection with the Lleida commuter rail lines, taking advantage of the already existing railway tunnel at this point in the city.
The proposal goes forward after an agreement between the Juntos group in the Congress of Deputies and the Government of Spain. The announcement has occurred after the meeting held this Monday between the Secretary of State for Transport, José Antonio Santano, and the mayor of Lleida, Fèlix Larrosa.
A halt next to the hospital complex
The future halt would be located on Onze de Setembre avenue, in a strategic environment due to its proximity to the Arnau de Vilanova and Santa Maria hospitals. The forecast involves studying if the infrastructure is viable from a technical and operational point of view, with the idea of integrating it into Lleida's commuter rail network.
The project contemplates taking advantage of the already built railway tunnel, a key piece to fit this new stop into the urban fabric and the current network. The decision to commission the study now opens the preliminary analysis phase before specifying deadlines, scope, and cost of the action.
The station and its surroundings, at the center of the actions
In the meeting, the so-called Plan de la Estación was also addressed, which includes the partial covering of the tracks in the vicinity of the train station. It is one of the urban planning operations linked to the transformation of this area of Lleida.
In addition, Adif plans to tender the station hotel during the second quarter of the year, within the actions planned for this railway space. The transferred calendar maintains that forecast for the coming months.
Review of the cracks in l'Horta
Another of the issues discussed affects the neighborhood of l'Horta. Adif will study the cracks detected in homes near the high-speed line, an issue that worries the residents of this area of the municipality.
With this package of measures on the table, Lleida remains pending the start of the study of the new halt and the evolution of the rest of the projects linked to the station and to the railway infrastructure in the city.
