The Mossos d'Esquadra have arrested in Lleida two minors as alleged perpetrators of seven violent snatchings committed against elderly women in the city. The investigation places the start of the assaults on March 5 in the area of Mercè street, where the first incidents occurred.
Victims of advanced age and two hospital admissions
Among the victims there are two women aged 91. Two of those affected suffered considerable injuries and had to be admitted to a hospital center after the attacks.
The pattern detected by the investigators was similar in all cases. The assailants acted in groups of between two and four young people and pounced on the victims to commit the robbery with violence, always on elderly women.
Identified by the security cameras
The agents managed to identify the two minors last March 23 after analyzing security camera images of the area. Based on that work, the Mossos focused their efforts to locate them.
The arrest took place this Thursday in the same neighborhood in which the assaults occurred. After the arrest, both minors have been placed at the disposal of the Juvenile Prosecutor's Office.
The investigation remains open
The police keep the investigation open because they consider that more young people would have participated in the events. The objective now is to identify the rest of those involved in a sequence of robberies that had generated concern among the neighborhood of this area of Lleida.
Los Mossos are working to clarify the participation of other alleged perpetrators and completely close an investigation that, for now, attributes to the two minors arrested the alleged authorship of seven violent snatchings.
