The province of Lleida registers a complex labor situation that exceeds fifteen thousand unemployed at the close of March according to the Observatori del Treball. Official data place the total figure above 15,600 people without occupation in the demarcation. This amount reinforces a structural pattern where unemployment historically remains close to fifteen thousand cases.

Profile and territorial inequalities

The disadvantaged group presents very specific demographic characteristics, being mostly women over forty-five years old with low academic qualifications and long-term unemployment. Regional gaps are evident, as in Ponent six out of ten job seekers are women, while in the central plain, 53% are over 45 years old. In Alt Pirineu and Aran, this proportion of adults reaches 59%. Educational precariousness also marks the differences, as 79% in the plain and 66% in the Pyrenean area only have primary education or compulsory secondary education. Half of these unemployed people have been without work for more than twelve months.

Change in the union map

The union elections reveal a new balance of power at the end of 2025 where UGT consolidates its leadership with 50.2% of the 3,749 delegates. This organization gathers 1,882 representatives compared to the 1,444 from Comisiones Obreras which accumulate 38.52%. CGT, USOC, and FETICO respectively add 95, 63, and 36 delegates, leaving 229 remaining positions for other formations and independent workers. The public sector shows a different scenario as CCOO leads the representation with 76 delegates out of a total of 280 compared to UGT's 43. IAC, CSIF, and I-CSC also stand out there. Territorially, UGT triumphs in almost the entire province except in Alta Ribagorça, Aran, and Cerdanya where CCOO wins, and in Solsonès where there is a tie.

May First Mobilization

The unions call for differentiated events in Lleida to commemorate Labor Day. UGT and CCOO have prepared a joint march that will begin at 12 noon in Plaça del Treball, with the final destination being Plaça de la Paeria. The route will include Pi i Margall Avenue, Magdalena Street, and Major Street to read a manifesto and conclude with a popular vermouth under slogans of peace, decent wages, and affordable housing. On the other hand, CGT and CNT will organize a parallel protest that will begin at 11 am from Plaça del Treball to Plaça Sant Joan. Said mobilization will demand labor rights, fair wages, and reduced working hours, ending with a political rally.
