The municipal government of Lleida officially presented the usage plan for the Glass Pavilion. The event served to publicize the details of this multipurpose space designed for cultural, educational, and participatory activities.

Recovery of a historic icon

The building was constructed in 1965 by the engineer Josep Maria Cots Masana as a covered exhibition center in the Camps Elisis. The renovation of the facility has been nominated for a National Architecture Award.

The work recovers more than 4,600 square meters intended for public use with multiple areas adapted to citizen needs.

On the ground floor, a multipurpose court of 1,786 square meters with a capacity for 613 people will be located. The upper floor will distribute differentiated spaces including the Pavilion Lookout of 171 square meters and capacity for 125 people.

A 302-square-meter auditorium with a capacity for 230 people will also be enabled. The facility will include a space called the "Hotel de Entidades" (Entity Hotel) aimed at non-profit associations with a capacity for approximately 95 people.

Transparent and participatory management

The councilor for Participation and Civil Rights, Roberto Pino, recalled that the project arises from a participatory process initiated in 2019.

"We want to turn the Glass Pavilion into a functional and open space, at the service of the entities and the entire city." - Roberto Pino, councilor for Participation and Civil Rights

The reservation system will work by prior request with criteria of transparency and equality. Requests must be made at least 15 days in advance and there may be a maximum of six teams.

Mayor Félix Larrosa underlined the symbolic value of the project, recalling his personal experience at the fairgrounds.

"This is a project of memory and of future. Initiatives will be born here that will make Lérida a more ambitious and proud city." - Félix Larrosa, mayor of Lérida

The equipment is integrated into a broader urban transformation strategy that includes new projects in the fairground environment.

It is foreseen that the work for its equipment will be finished between the end of June and the beginning of July.
