The regions of Ponent and Alt Pirineu i Aran closed April with an interannual inflation of 3.7%, seven tenths more than in March and above the 3% registered in Catalonia as a whole. The National Statistics Institute published the data this Thursday.
The rebound in the demarcation of Lleida contrasts with the evolution of the rest of the Catalan provinces, where the CPI fell in April. While Barcelona went from 3% to 2.8%, Tarragona fell from 3.4% to 3.2% and Girona from 3.4% to 3.3%.
Housing rose to 6.7% and drove the increase in Lleida
In the demarcation of Lleida, the group of housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels accelerated in April to 6.7%, after exceeding 5% in March. Alcohol and tobacco also increased sharply, going from 3.7% to 5.8%.
Clothing and footwear were added to this rise, advancing from 1.6% to 5.4% in one month. On the other hand, food and leisure, sports and cultural activities maintained a more stable or moderate evolution.
During April, moreover, prices rose by 0.8% monthly in the demarcation of Lleida, which reinforces the difference with the more contained trend in the rest of Catalonia.
Barcelona, Girona and Tarragona lowered the CPI while Lleida accelerated
The Catalan map showed unequal evolution between demarcations in April. Lleida concentrated the largest annual increase, with 3.7%, compared to a generalized decrease in Barcelona, Girona and Tarragona.
The comparison also places Catalonia below the Spanish average, with an annual CPI of 3%. In this context, the figure for Ponent and Alt Pirineu i Aran was seven tenths above the Catalan average.
The data released this Thursday by the National Statistics Institute places the annual variation of the CPI in Ponent and Alt Pirineu i Aran at 3.7% during April.
