Two young men aged 24 and 28 have entered provisional prison without bail in Lleida for their alleged connection with the death of a 22-year-old man, who last Sunday fell down a light well of a building on Valentí Almirall street. The entry into prison occurred yesterday at noon by order of court number 1 of the Instruction Section of the Court of Instance of Lleida.
The case is being pursued for alleged crimes of homicide, injuries and omission of the duty to render aid. The victim was transferred to Arnau de Vilanova hospital after being attended to at the scene, but ended up dying hours later.
The investigated deny having thrown the victim
During their judicial appearance, the two investigated denied before the judge having thrown the young man down the light well. Despite this, the Prosecutor's Office requested their entry into prison upon seeing indications of a fight between the three.
The public prosecutor also argued risk of flight due to lack of ties and the seriousness of the crime of homicide, which contemplates sentences of up to 15 years in prison. The judge finally agreed to the precautionary measure of provisional detention without bail.
The fall occurred in a building on Valentí Almirall street
The events occurred on Sunday in a property on Valentí Almirall street, in the city of Lleida, where the victim fell down the light well. The two detainees are also being investigated for omission of the duty to render aid, as the prosecution considers that they did not report the fall despite being present at the home.
The alert was not given by them. It was a neighbor from the block who went to the Guardia Urbana police station, located about 100 meters away, to report what was happening.
A neighbor gave the notice and the Local Police initiated the resuscitation
After receiving the alert, Local Police agents moved to the building and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers on the injured person. Afterwards, the young man was evacuated to Arnau de Vilanova hospital.
The victim, 22 years old, died hours later at the hospital center. The judicial investigation remains open to clarify what happened inside the home before the fall and determine the exact participation of the two imprisoned.
