Two detainees for the death of a 22-year-old young man are placed this Tuesday at the disposal of the Juzgado de Instrucción de Lleida en funciones de guardia, which must decide whether to agree to preventive detention and under what criminal classification the case is investigated, between reckless or intentional homicide. The victim died on Sunday late in the afternoon after falling down a light well in a building on calle Valentí Almirall, número 3, en Lleida.
The young man was evacuated in very serious condition to Arnau de Vilanova hospital, where he finally died. The investigation suggests that the fall would not have been accidental, but rather would be a consequence of a fight that occurred inside the home.
The investigation places the origin in a fight
The first indications gathered by the police place the focus on a previous brawl. In fact, on Saturday a fight had already occurred in the apartment that required police intervention. When the officers accessed the dwelling again after the fall became known, they located traces compatible with a fight and verified that one of the arrested individuals had injuries.
One of the elements that the court is now analyzing is the action of the two detainees after the events. None of them alerted about the fall of the young man. It was a neighbor of the block who went to the police station of the Guardia Urbana to report what happened.
Background of interventions in the property
The property where the events occurred had already been the subject of police actions in recent months. The Guardia Urbana had intervened in that dwelling on five occasions since June 2025 due to neighborhood disturbances.
Furthermore, the occupation of the apartment was reported last year and the matter is awaiting judicial pronouncement. Now, with the two arrested already before the court, the case enters a key phase to determine if the young man's death was the result of negligence or a malicious act, while the investigation remains open.
