A 46-year-old woman has died after being run over by a car on the A-2 highway. The accident occurred in the municipality of Bell-lloc d"Urgell, located in the Pla d"Urgell region. The events happened during Thursday night when the pedestrian was walking on the roadway.
The Mossos d"Esquadra were alerted to the accident at 2210 hours. Patrols immediately moved towards kilometer marker 474 of the highway. Two police cars were deployed to collaborate in the investigation and control surrounding traffic. Four units from the Medical Emergency Service also attended the scene to try to assist the injured person. Authorities are studying the circumstances that led to the impact with the pedestrian.
Road death toll rises
This tragic event raises the death toll on Catalan roads during the year 2026. A total of 33 people have already lost their lives in traffic accidents registered in the autonomous community. A total of five of these victims were vulnerable pedestrians at the time of the accident. The seriousness of this data reflects the concern for road safety in the region.
In a separate incident this same week, a 43-year-old motorcyclist has also died in a road collision. The accident was registered on the AP-7 highway near La Granada, in Alt Penedès. The events took place around 0159 hours when the driver was traveling at kilometer point 188.5 of the infrastructure.
The impact was of great violence and the motorcyclist died instantly. Rescue teams did not manage to save his life despite immediate action. It is being investigated why the motorcycle driver suffered the accident at those coordinates.
Security forces continue working to clarify the details of both episodes and prevent new lethal outcomes on the road network.
