A man was arrested at dawn in Lleida after allegedly assaulting his partner with a broken glass inside an ATM on Lluís Companys street. The attack occurred around 6:00 a.m. in the place where both were sleeping.

The aggression occurred in a context of high vulnerability. The alleged perpetrator and the victim are middle-aged, homeless people, and the case coincides with an increase in reports of habitual physical and psychological violence in the regions of Lleida and mistreatment in the home throughout the province.

Bystanders stopped the bleeding with a makeshift tourniquet

The woman suffered a deep cut on one leg. Several people passing through the area called 112 and applied a tourniquet with a sock to stop the bleeding until the arrival of emergency services.

Then patrols from the Guardia Urbana, the Mossos d'Esquadra, and a SEM ambulance arrived. The medical personnel evacuated the victim to the Arnau de Vilanova hospital, where she was admitted and has a scheduled surgery for a ruptured artery.

The Guardia Urbana arrested the alleged aggressor for gender violence and also for damages, after he broke the glass of the bank office in whose ATM he was spending the night with the woman.

Complaints grew in Lleida while the incident occurred in the street

The episode occurred outside a dwelling, in an ATM converted into a night shelter for the couple. Even so, it fits into an upward trend in reports of violence exercised in the cohabitation and couple environment in the demarcation.

Last year, the Mossos d'Esquadra registered 107 complaints for habitual physical and psychological violence in the regions of Lleida. The figure represents an increase of 9% and brings the number of incidents recorded since 2020 to 517.

In the province as a whole, mistreatment in the home environment also increased. During 2025, there were 508 complaints, almost 2% more than in 2024, and the sum of the last five years reaches 2,914 complaints.

The victim was transferred to the Arnau de Vilanova hospital after the aggression registered around 6:00 a.m. at the ATM on Lluís Companys street.
