The Firefighters of the Generalitat have intervened this Saturday due to a collapse in a retaining wall of the Catedral Nova enclosure, in the area located below Sant Anastasi street, in Lleida. The alert was received at 10:16 hours and, after a first inspection, it was decided to secure the surroundings and limit access.

The action has focused on reviewing the affected point and preventing risks in the closest perimeter. The personnel have fenced off both the lower part of the temple and the upper area to prevent the passage of people while surveillance is maintained over the state of the wall.

Traffic cuts in the surroundings

In parallel, the Urban Guard has cut off circulation in the streets Arajol, Sant Anastasi and Obradors. The restriction affects the immediate surroundings of the New Cathedral and seeks to guarantee safety while the assessment of the incident is completed.

Municipal sources have indicated that no personal injuries have been registered. The incident has remained, for now, limited to the structural damage and to the preventive measures adopted in the area.

Technical review scheduled for Monday

The municipal technical services will carry out this Monday a detailed assessment of the state of the retaining wall. That inspection must specify the extent of the detachment and the necessary actions to stabilize the affected point and determine when mobility can be normally recovered in the vicinity of the temple.
