Hall three of Fira de Lleida will function this summer as a shelter with 100 places for temporary workers for the fruit harvest. The resource will be part of the municipal agricultural care device, which will be active from June 1 to August 31.

The main novelty comes as the city council maintains its objective of reducing overnight stays on the street during the harvest. The new space at Fira de Lleida will concentrate almost half of the 266 places planned for the entire municipal device and will add, in addition to accommodation, basic services and social, labor, and health care.

The municipal plan also includes the Caparrella Temporary Worker Care Center, with 32 places, a shelter for men in Seròs with capacity for 40 people, 16 apartments from the Municipal Urban Agenda Company for 90 people, and four emergency places at the Jericó shelter.

Overall, the network will be operational during the three central months of the agricultural campaign in Lleida and its surroundings, with resources distributed among the city, Caparrella, and Seròs. The Fira de Lleida hall will assume the largest volume of reception within this deployment.

Carlos Enjuanes, deputy mayor for Social Action and Innovation, explained that the device seeks to guarantee dignified reception, promote labor insertion in the agricultural sector, and reduce the number of people sleeping on the street. Hall three will also have shower, laundry, and food services.

Fira de Lleida will bring together social, health, and labor care in a single office

Alongside the summer shelter, the venue will host a single office for social, labor, and health care. The same space will incorporate a new labor intermediation office aimed at non-agricultural professional profiles.

Labor intermediation will be coordinated between the Municipal Employment Institute, the Public Employment Service, the Department of Labor, entities, unions, and companies in the sector. The design of the device thus combines assistance with job searching during the campaign.

From the opposition, the municipal group Comú called for better planning of the device. It also requested more public services and climate shelters to reinforce care for temporary workers.

The municipal operation will be in effect from June 1 to August 31 and includes four emergency beds at the Jericó shelter, in addition to the 100 at pavilion three of Fira de Lleida.
