A hundred protesters cut off the N-240 at the height of the Montserrat church, in Lleida, at 7:30 a.m. with containers and school furniture, in a protest that lasted an hour and a half and forced traffic diversions. The mobilization then toured Rovira Roure avenue, the Ronda promenade and briefly cut off Europa square before concentrating in Ricard Viñes square until shortly before 12:00 p.m.
The tension of the day later concentrated in front of the territorial headquarters of the Department of Education, on Pica d'Estats street. There, a police cordon prevented the protesters from entering and, during that attempt to enter, a Mossos d'Esquadra officer hit a teacher with a baton and pushed her, which unleashed shouts of "We are not delinquents, we are teachers."
The protest toured Lleida after the initial N-240 blockade
Mossos d'Esquadra and Guardia Urbana diverted traffic while the column advanced through several points of the city. The route included Rovira Roure avenue and the Ronda promenade, two of the busiest axes in the capital of Segrià during the morning.
After the initial blockade, the demonstrators also briefly interrupted traffic in Europa square. The protest ended up moving to Ricard Viñes square, where the concentration was maintained until before 12:00 p.m.
In front of the headquarters of the Department of Education, the police blocked the passage to Pica d'Estats street and forced the group to remain on Bisbe Irurita street. It was at this point that the scuffle with the teacher occurred.
During that moment, an officer hit a teacher with a baton and pushed her in front of the demonstrators. The scene provoked an immediate response from the protesters, who chanted slogans against the police action.
CGT requests videos of the blow and another protest blocked the C-16 for two hours
After the incident, the CGT union announced that it would study measures against the agent who used the baton. The organization also asked witnesses to provide videos and other documentary evidence of what happened in Lleida.
In the afternoon, another group of protesters moved the protest to the C-16, at the height of the Cadí tunnel, in Riu de Cerdanya. The blockade lasted two hours and caused traffic jams, while the participants displayed banners with the slogan "To care for children, care for the school."
Faced with that situation, the Servei Català de Trànsit closed traffic in Bagà to prevent vehicles from getting trapped inside the tunnel. The closure on the C-16 kept the passage closed until 8:30 PM, at which point the Cadí tunnel was reopened.
