The Guàrdia Urbana of Lleida cut off traffic on Passeig de Ronda and Alcalde Porqueras street during the night and early morning from Thursday to Friday to facilitate the passage of a 40-meter truck carrying a 130-ton industrial cylinder destined for the Alier plant in Rosselló.
The transfer required the temporary dismantling of traffic lights and overhead signs on two of the city's main streets so that the piece could cross Lleida without obstacles. Traffic was not restored until 03:00, after completing the entire urban route.
The truck left Soses at 22:00 and crossed Lleida in the early morning
The vehicle began its journey in Soses around 22:00 and advanced towards Rosselló, crossing the capital of Segrià. The municipal operation focused on Passeig de Ronda and Alcalde Porqueras street, where the volume of the load required clearing height and passage space.
To move the piece, the company used a 16-axle truck. The assembly was necessary due to the weight of the load, which reached 130 tons.
During the operation, the city council temporarily removed traffic lights and overhead signs on both streets. These elements were repositioned the following day, once the special transport had passed.
The piece arrived from Shanghai for a new recycled paper machine
The transported cylinder is part of a new machine acquired by Alier for the manufacture of recycled paper. The piece was manufactured in Shanghai, arrived by ship at the port of Tarragona, and then continued by road to Lleida before its final entry into Rosselló.
A company representative detailed the equipment's function in the industrial process.
"It is a rotating cylinder 18 meters long and 5 in diameter, and used paper is introduced inside it, mixed with water, and a mass is generated that then passes through another component and is used to make recycled paper" - an Alier representative, paper company
The dimension of the piece helps explain the complexity of the urban transfer. In a single body, the cylinder measures 18 meters long and five in diameter.
The arrival, moreover, had been delayed compared to the company's initial forecast. An Alier representative explained that they expected to receive the piece in December, but the first transport attempt failed due to the weight.
According to that same representative, the first time they loaded the cylinder onto a truck, the vehicle broke under the weight.
