The Urban Guard will initiate criminal proceedings against a 77-year-old man for shooting several times with a blank pistol on Monday afternoon on Doctora Castells street, in the Cappont neighborhood of Lleida. The intervention was activated after several neighbors reported shots in the public street.
The Local Police went to the promenade of Doctora Castells street and located the man sitting on a bench, with a pistol kept between his belt and his back. The officers disarmed him and later verified that it was a blank-firing weapon. In the magazine, he also carried two detonator cartridges.
The Urban Guard removed the weapon and requested the intervention of health services. The man was transferred to a hospital so that he could receive psychological evaluation due to his condition.
Criminal complaint for illicit possession of weapons
Municipal sources have specified that the man will be criminally charged for an alleged crime of illegal possession of weapons. This type of crime can carry penalties of up to three years in prison.
The episode occurred in a particularly sensitive spot in Cappont, almost at the same level as where last October a crime with a firearm occurred. In that case, a 78-year-old man allegedly shot his 47-year-old son-in-law to death, in the middle of Doctora Castells street and was arrested minutes later.
Another incident with weapon in less than a day in Cappont
The tension in the neighborhood continued the next day. On Tuesday at 12:20 hours, another incident with a weapon was registered in a supermarket on Les Garrigues avenue.
In that case, an individual tried to steal chocolate bars and, upon being discovered by an employee, pulled out a knife to threaten her before fleeing the establishment. After the deployment of patrols from the Guardia Urbana and the Mossos d'Esquadra, a patrol from this second force located the suspect on Mequinensa street.
The arrested man, 57 years old, was arrested for an alleged violent robbery. Both events, which occurred in less than 24 hours and in different parts of Cappont, have once again placed the neighborhood in the spotlight of police news in Lleida.
