The Firefighters of the Generalitat made 548 call-outs for fires in buildings in the Lleida counties during 2025, an average of more than 10 weekly interventions and about 14% more than in 2024. The increase is also being noticed this year. So far in 2026, 121 services have already been accounted for, in a context in which only between Friday and yesterday six call-outs for fires in properties were registered.
The city of Lleida concentrated 166 of those actions last year, three out of every ten of the total, with an increase of 31% compared to the previous year. By regions, el Segrià led the records with 227 services for fires in buildings, 20% more than in 2024.
Two evacuated due to smoke in homes in Lleida
One of the most recent interventions occurred at 00:32 yesterday on Les Roses street, in the Bordeta neighborhood of Lleida. In an apartment, a dryer and a washing machine caught fire. The tenant had to be evacuated due to smoke inhalation to Arnau de Vilanova hospital.
Hours later, at noon, another person was attended to and transferred to the CUAP of Prat de la Riba after a fire in a dwelling on Almeria street, in the Els Mangraners neighborhood. The fire started in the kitchen and burned some wood.
In the last hours, a fire was also declared in a shed on the Camí de Montcada, without affecting the main dwelling and without injuries. In Alcarràs, the Firefighters also intervened due to a chimney fire that did not cause affected.
On Friday, three other house fires had already occurred in Balaguer, Bellpuig and Mollerussa, with five people affected by smoke inhalation.
Recommendations for acting in a fire
Faced with this type of emergencies, the Firefighters insist that, if a fire breaks out in a dwelling, the priority is to leave the property to avoid exposure to smoke. If it is not possible to leave the apartment or the house, they recommend closing doors and windows to confine the fire in the affected room and hinder the spread of smoke.
The emergency body also advises installing smoke detectors as a preventive measure in homes.
More fires of vehicles and containers
The pressure on emergency services is not limited to buildings. Outdoor vehicle fires rose by 27% in 2025 in the Lleida regions, with 193 incidents compared to 152 in 2024. As of March 17 this year, 23 call-outs for this type of fire had already been made.
The most common cause of vehicle fires are breakdowns, although cases also occur due to fires affecting containers. Last week there were also several car fires in Urgell presumably linked to robberies, facts that the Mossos d'Esquadra are investigating.
In parallel, in 2025, 286 incidents due to fires in waste containers were recorded in the province of Lleida, 22% more than the previous year. More than 55% of these call-outs were concentrated in the city of Lleida, which once again positions itself as the main focus of interventions also in this area.
The evolution of the data confirms an upward trend in different types of urban fires in the Lleida regions, with special incidence in the capital and in Segrià, while emergency services maintain the warning about the importance of reacting quickly and limiting smoke exposure as much as possible.
