461,028 inhabitants in Lleida in 2025: the population grows, but young groups decline

The province of Lleida closed 2025 with 461,028 inhabitants, a figure that confirms the demographic growth of recent years and that, at the same time, maintains the change in trend in the age structure. The population had been 454,503 people in 2024 and 447,343 in 2023.

The evolution shows a sustained increase in the census, although with a relevant nuance in the composition of the population. The youngest age groups continue to gradually decrease, while the weight of older people continues to rise. In that same context, those over 65 years of age continue to gain presence throughout the territory.

More population and aging in the capital and in the province as a whole

The Lleida capital also reflects this process. Lleida city had 214 centenarians at the end of 2025, which is 25 more than in the second half of 2024. The data consolidates the aging of the population in the municipality and accompanies the trend detected in the province as a whole.

The increase in inhabitants in Lleida occurs, therefore, in parallel with a demographic transformation marked by the progressive reduction of the younger age groups and by the increase in longevity. It is a fundamental change that is already continuously observed in the latest statistics.

The municipal map remains mostly within the Statute of the Rural Municipality

Another of the highlighted data is the application of the new framework for the local world. 88% of the municipalities of Lleida, a total of 203 out of 231, fall under the new Statute of the Rural Municipality. The figure gives an idea of the weight that rural reality has in the province and of the territorial extension of this regime.

The implementation of the statute affects the vast majority of the Lleida municipal map and reinforces the uniqueness of a territory with a marked component of population dispersion and strong regional roots.

The agri-food maintains economic leadership

In the economic sphere, agri-food continues to be the main support of Lleida's productive fabric. Alongside it, technology and logistics are gaining ground and expanding their presence within the province's business activity.

The business directory also includes companies that exceed a turnover of 1.5 million euros, in a snapshot that once again places the agri-food sector as the central axis of Lleida's economy.

The weight of the swine continues marking the regions of Lleida

The dimension of that leadership is clearly seen in livestock farming. The Lleida regions concentrate 58.9% of Catalonia's pig census, with around 4.7 million heads. It is one of the clearest indicators of the specific weight that Lleida maintains within the primary sector and the industry linked to agri-food production.

With more inhabitants, an increasingly aging population and an economy that remains very linked to the countryside and the food industry, Lleida faces 2026 with a very defined demographic and productive profile, in which the rural world and pork continue to play a central role.
