The Mossos d'Esquadra arrested yesterday in Lleida a 28-year-old man as the alleged perpetrator of the robbery of a gas station in Els Mangraners, committed on March 8. The arrest took place early in the morning at a home on Mossèn Salvador street, after an investigation undertaken by the Segrià ABP Investigation Unit.
The robbery occurred around 10:00 hours at the gas station on Miguel Hernàndez street, next to the N 240. The assailant, hooded, entered the establishment and threatened the clerk with a pistol to seize the proceeds. Afterwards he fled in a vehicle.
Closure device without result after the assault
After receiving the alert, the Mossos activated the Gàbia device, with which the exit routes through which the criminals can escape are closed. The initial search did not allow locating the suspect and the investigation then passed into the hands of the Segrià agents.
The investigators managed to identify the alleged robber, who was already monitored for his criminal record. According to what has transpired, the detainee is a multiple repeat offender and accumulates more than thirty previous offenses.
Police entry early morning in the capital of Segrià
The arrest occurred yesterday around 6:00 hours, when agents carried out an entry into the home on Mossèn Salvador street. The investigation remains open to determine if the arrested person may be related to other criminal acts. He is expected to pass today to judicial disposition.
Another line open for robberies in Urgell
Aside from this arrest, the Mossos maintain another investigation underway to identify the perpetrator of several knife-point assaults in tobacconists committed on Tuesday in Belianes, Anglesola and Bellpuig. In those incidents, one consummated and two in the degree of attempt, the thief acted with his face covered by a balaclava and dark fly-type glasses, while another person waited for him outside with a vehicle.
The car used was a black Seat Ibiza, which appeared abandoned and burned early Tuesday afternoon in Tàrrega, once the assaults were committed. Agents are also analyzing the possible connection of these robberies with several intentional vehicle fires in Urgell. On Monday, four cars had already appeared burned intentionally in Vall del Corb.
With the arrest made in Lleida, the Mossos consider the robbery of the Els Mangraners gas station clarified for now, although they keep open several lines of work to check if behind other recent events in the Ponent area there may be connections pending confirmation.
