Civil Protection has activated the alert for an episode of strong wind and rough seas that will affect the regions of Girona between Wednesday night and Thursday. The warning is concentrated in Alt Empordà, Baix Empordà and the Girona Pyrenees, where gusts are expected to exceed 90 km/h.
The episode will also have an impact on the coast. From Wednesday night and throughout Thursday, strong waves are expected on the Empordà coast, with waves that can exceed 2.5 meters. The most exposed points will be the north of Cap de Creus and Cap de Begur.
Alert for intense wind and maritime storm
The forecast requires extreme caution both inland and in the coastal strip. Civil Protection asks for "maximum prudence" given an episode that can complicate mobility and increase the risk in open spaces, especially in elevated areas, stretches of coast and areas exposed to the most intense gusts.
In the domestic sphere, the recommendation involves securing awnings, closing doors and windows tightly, and removing from balconies and terraces any object that could fall or be carried away by the wind. This is a basic measure to prevent incidents in streets and interior courtyards, especially in municipalities where the wind tends to channel with more force.
Recommendations for the street and movements
Civil Protection advises avoiding wooded areas, unstable walls, and elements of urban furniture that may detach. In episodes of this type, branches, fences, signs, or poorly fixed pieces can become an added risk for pedestrians.
For those who have to travel, it is recommended to check traffic conditions beforehand, moderate speed and pay special attention to side gusts, especially during overtakes. The wind can exceed 90 km/h in the regions under warning, a situation that requires driving with special attention on open roads and elevated sections.
Avoid activities on the coast and in the mountains
Given the combination of strong wind and rough seas, Civil Protection asks to avoid leisure activities on the coast and in the mountains while the episode lasts. The recommendation especially affects the Empordà coast, where the state of the sea will be more adverse, and also the mountain areas of the Girona Pyrenees, exposed to intense gusts and rapid changes in conditions.
The alert will be maintained during Wednesday night and Thursday, with monitoring on the evolution of the wind and the swell in the most affected Girona regions.
