Inflation in the province of Girona stood at 3.3% year-on-year in April, one tenth less than in March, although expenses more closely linked to housing and daily life continued to put upward pressure. The CPI also rose by 0.7% compared to the previous month and accumulates an increase of 2.2% since the beginning of the year.
General moderation coexists with intense increases in basic items. The supply of water and other housing-related services became 11.3% more expensive in one year, the use of personal vehicles 9.6% and insurance 8.4%, while the shopping basket in the Girona regions costs 1.6% more than a year ago.

Among the largest annual increases are also hospital services, with 7%, and footwear, with 6.5%. The electricity, gas, and other fuel package rose by 4.9% compared to April of last year.
Even so, that same group registered a monthly decrease of 3.2%, one of the clearest declines of the month. Passenger transport also fell in April, by 2.2%, alcoholic beverages by 1.4%, and food by 0.2%.
Other products and services were already cheaper than a year ago. Passenger transport fell 5.3% year-on-year, tourist packages 4.3%, home textile articles 2.9%, tools and equipment for home and garden 0.8%, household appliances 0.7%, and non-alcoholic beverages 0.4%.
Accommodations rose 11.6% in April and food fell 0.2%
April's monthly performance showed increases concentrated in highly seasonal sectors or linked to spring consumption. Accommodation services increased by 11.6%, footwear by 7.3%, clothing by 7%, hospital services by 4%, and tourist packages by 3.8%.
In Catalonia as a whole, CPI moderated to 3% in April, also one tenth less than in March, and remained below the Spanish average, which was 3.2%. Underlying inflation fell to 2.6% in Catalonia and 2.8% in the State as a whole.
By provinces, Lleida registered the largest increase with a year-on-year rate of 3.7%, seven tenths more than in March. Barcelona fell from 3% to 2.8% and Tarragona from 3.4% to 3.2%.
In Catalunya, fuels and combustibles are 10% more expensive than a year ago, 2.8 tenths more than in March, when the increase was 7.2%. At the same time, the electricity and gas package marked negative year-on-year rates and fell to 1.8% below zero in Catalunya.
The Government will withdraw the VAT reduction on electricity starting from June 1 and the tax will return to 21%, while maintaining the bonuses on fuels.
